The New Year is here, and people are making weight loss and fitness resolutions. Unfortunately, many of those same people made many of those same resolutions last year and failed to follow through. If you want to avoid being like them, if you actually want to make 2018 your best year yet, follow these four tips. They can help you follow through with your resolutions.
1. Be Specific
Don't just say you want to lose weight or get in shape. There is no concrete measure of success. Make a specific goal so you can measure your success throughout the year. Say you will lose 20 pounds, or decide to improve your squat max by 50 pounds.
2. Write Them Down
It's one thing to say you plan to do something. It's another to write it down. Handshakes are great, but written contracts make agreements official. Record your goals so you can see them in black and white. Also, keep them in places where you will see them often—including your locker, gym bag, wallet, and cell phone—anywhere you're bound to see them every day, reminding you to stick with them.
3. Use the Power of Social Media
Make your social media networks work for you. Post your goals on your Facebook page so your friends and followers can motivate and support you and hold you accountable. Also, follow your favorite athletes and other people who inspire you on social media to keep yourself motivated.
4. Reward Yourself
Give yourself an incentive to keep going on days when you might not want to push yourself. If you have weight-loss goals, reward yourself with a new wardrobe. Is there a place you always wanted to go? Arrange a vacation after you complete your marathon or your specific goal. It will be worth it.
