Having enough energy is key for athletes. School or work can be draining, and athletes need energy to perform their best during a game or a practice. If you don't have time to eat a meal before an event or don't like the taste of energy bars, you can always make an energy snack yourself.
STACK talked with sports dietician Leslie Bonci, who offered a quick and simple do-it-yourself energy bite recipe that makes a great snack. Her energy bite snack is easy to make and can cost less than some energy bars. The basic ingredients include some kind of nut butter, a grain and a few small additives to get the snack the way you want it.
Here is the list of ingredients for this particular energy bite.
- Peanut butter
- Additional Protein
- Oats (uncooked)
- Rice Krispies cereal
- Sunflower Seeds
Add all the ingredients to a big bowl, stirring in each one. This is a no-bake recipe. You can roll the mixture into balls or put the snack on a cookie sheet, freeze it for 10 minutes, then cut into bite sizes. Also, remember that you can add, switch or remove any ingredients.
